Floop Ess Hunter - REAPER Script for Automatic Sibilance Detection & Volume Envelope De-Essing

Floop Ess Hunter is a free REAPER script that automatically detects and tames vocal sibilance ("s", "sh", "ch") by writing precise volume envelope reductions directly to the selected items.

No destructive editing, no offline processing, just clean, adjustable de-essing fully integrated into REAPER.

It performs spectral analysis, ZCR detection, adaptive thresholds, and writes non-cumulative envelope segments, preserving the natural tone of speech and singing.

Perfect for mixing engineers, post-production editors, and REAPER power users who want a transparent, visual de-esser inside their DAW.

Requirements

REAPER v7.48 or later

ReaImGui: ReaScript binding for Dear ImGui (install via ReaPack)

Tested on Windows 10/11 (should work on macOS if ReaImGui is installed)

Installation

1. Install ReaImGui via ReaPack.

2. Copy Floop Ess Hunter.lua to your REAPER Scripts folder.

3. Load it from the Actions List and optionally assign it to a toolbar button.

Quick Start

1. Select one or more vocal items.

2. Run Floop Ess Hunter from the Actions List.

3. Click Analyze and apply to detect sibilance and write envelope points.

4. Adjust parameters in Advanced Settings as needed.

Fine-Tuning Parameters

Includes adjustable analysis filters, window/hop, level thresholds, ZCR, segment merging, ramps, reduction amount, Pre-FX vs Track Volume routing, and non-cumulative replace mode.

All parameters are documented in the built-in Help window.
